Ingredients: 1 pkg dry yeast 1/4 cup warm water 4 cups sifted flour 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp sugar 1 1/2 tsp salt 1 Tbsp shortening 1 1/4 cup milk, scalded then cooled (see French Bread recipe for scalding directions) Oil for deep frying Powdered sugar for dusting Dissolve yeast in warm water in cup. From Miss Patti’s Cookbook This recipe comes from a restaurant down in Kentucky called “Patti’s”. Really good southern cookin’! This pie is one of Brendan’s favorites from the restaurant. According to Brendan’s Aunt Judy, this is the “real” Grandma Nielsen recipe. His Uncle Niels couldn’t figure out why Judy couldn’t make pie “as good as Mom’s” until one day Judy spotted Grandma Nielsen adding the entire can of pumpkin instead of the half a can the original recipe called for. Grandma commented that she added the whole can so none of the pumpkin would go to waste. Rae’s favorite chocolate chip cookies. Of course she adds only half the chips and leaves out the nuts (go figure). I think they’re MUCH better with ALL of the ingredients added! Jell-O Cookies

One of Rachel’s favorite cookies. “Warm childhood memories” she claims. Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup sugar 1 (3 oz) box Jell-O 3/4 cup butter 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp salt granulated sugar for rolling Cream butter; add sugar and gelatin gradually. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Blend in sifted dry ingredients; chill. Shape into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar. Place on greased cookie sheets. Flatten with the bottom of a glass. Hot Milk Cake

This is a wonderful cake to have with fresh berries! Ingredients: 4 eggs 2 cups sugar 2 1/4 cup flour 2 1/4 tsp baking powder 1 tsp vanilla 1 1/4 cup milk 10 Tbsp butter In mixing bowl, beat eggs at high speed until thick about 5 minutes.
