How we started: Cooking as a tradition
Our family has always shown love in our food. Over time, favorite recipes become traditions, and members of the family start to be known for our best recipes. For example, everyone knows to go to Pam if you want the best pies, Annette for cheesy potatoes, Grandpa for fresh-caught bluegill fish fry, and Grandma for molasses cookies. Eventually, we realized that none of us could keep track of all of these recipes, and the last thing we wanted was for our favorites to be lost with the passage of time. In 2001, we started a collection of family recipes with the basics- brandy slush, homemade barbecue sauce, and pasty. Over the last nearly 20 years, as our family grows, so do our potlucks- and our cookbooks.
Each page has recipes submitted by members of our family from all generations- some we created, some we adapted, and some we borrowed. All of them have fostered our family’s connection to each other- there’s something special about being able to eat some of Rae’s jello cookies when she lives halfway across the country.
We created this blog to make it easier for our family to share recipes with each other- so if you’re here, consider yourself part of the family. We hope you feel the love.
