Cara & Tyler’s “How We Met…”

The story of how we met starts out with our mutual love of music. My freshman year I was playing cymbals for the marching band and Tyler was playing the quads. We were getting ready to perform for halftime when I was forced to play the ginormous cymbals instead of my usual ones. Tyler was waiting to march on the field when he leaned over and said, “Are you sure you can handle those?” with a smile. I don’t recall what smart comment I said back to him, but we both laughed. This is when we met, but that’s not … Continue reading Cara & Tyler’s “How We Met…”

Nicki & Cam’s “How We Met…”

We first met because we lived in the same residence hall our first year at UW Green Bay in the fall of 2011. We were both forced by our RA to go to “Res Life Olympics” the first week on campus. We barely talked there, but those of us who went became a group of fast friends. At first, we were just friends in the same circle. We hung out together in groups, but never really spent time one-on-one. A few months into the year, Nicki realized she liked Cam as more than a friend, and she ended up messaging … Continue reading Nicki & Cam’s “How We Met…”

Jacki & Matt’s “How We Met…”

We met working at Marigold Kitchen, a breakfast/lunch cafe just off the Capitol square in Madison. Jacki remembers walking in for her interview and being greeted by a very friendly, big-grinned and wild-haired punk who was, unbeknownst to her, the love of her life. We became instant friends. We danced to mixtapes while setting up private parties at the cafe, took leisurely bike rides through the arboretum, enjoyed salsa nights, and got lost in socio-political discussions.  One Halloween we dressed up as Team Rocket (from Pokemon, duh! Photo w/ our muffin recipe) for a costume contest at The Majestic Theatre, but missed … Continue reading Jacki & Matt’s “How We Met…”

Pam & Neil’s “How We Met…”

Neil and I met the summer of 2006. We were both at the Dodgeville Bluesfest, back when the Dodgeville Bluesfest was awesome. Side note: there is a GREAT picture of Max getting his groove on at the very same Bluesfest in the Breads and Crusts chapter of our cookbook, on a Pumpkin Bread recipe from the Rielys. Walking through the crowd, I see my friend Jeff Oakes and go over to say hi. Hanging out with him was a tall, skinny, drunk hottie named Neil. We chatted and danced and drank a little beer and at the end of the … Continue reading Pam & Neil’s “How We Met…”

Mike & Lori’s “How We Met…”

Well, Lori and I have a little different version of this story… In the fall of 2012, I received a text from Jeff & Mary Grundahl informing me they had just run into Lori and her kids at Ten Pin Alley and had a nice conversation with her.  They met Lori through a friend a couple of years or so prior at a Holiday Party. They mentioned Lori told them she was interested in meeting someone. So, they reached out to me and I told them I was sick of the Match.com experience and would be very interested in meeting her.  … Continue reading Mike & Lori’s “How We Met…”

Mom & Dad

And first there were two… Dad and I first met at a Halloween party at Weier School. Blue Grass Valley School was invited. I don’t remember what grades we were in. I went to St. Francis High School in Little Falls, MN my freshman year. Then Dad and I were both in Ridgeway High. Our first date, he and Joe Weber stopped at our home on a Saturday night to ask me to go to a movie. We didn’t have a telephone so he couldn’t call first. He had to wait for me to get ready and off we went, … Continue reading Mom & Dad
