Brendan’s Bananas

Brendan pirated and modified (aka simplified) this recipe from “Bananas Foster”, a famous recipe from a restaurant called “Brennan’s” in New Orleans.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana, sliced into rounds
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup spiced rum
  • Cinnamon
  • Ice cream

Melt butter over medium high heat in a frying pan. Place bananas into frying pan and sprinkle with cinnamon (ROUGHLY 1/4-1/2 tsp). Saute bananas for 1-2 minutes flipping once. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Cook 1 minute. Add rum. **Be careful if using an open flame, as rum may ignite!** If using a gas range, you will want to remove the pan from the flame before adding rum. Brendan likes to use a lighter to set it aflame for dramatic effect when guests are over… πŸ™‚ Allow to cook down for a minute. Serve hot over ice cream. This serves two. We enjoy putting this over one bowl of 5 scoops of ice cream, and then fighting over the pieces of banana!

Make sure the bananas are ripe or else this takes on a consistency that can only be described as “funky”. And not a good funky either…
